UN report: 25 Yemeni families displaced in the past week due to ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported the displacement of 25 Yemeni families due to economic, security, and health-related issues. This alarming trend highlights the ongoing challenges faced by many in Yemen.

Weekly Displacement Data

In its weekly report released on Tuesday, the IOM detailed that its displacement tracking matrix recorded the movement of 25 families, totaling 150 individuals, between March 16 and March 22. This data underscores the urgent need for humanitarian assistance in the region.

Origins and Destinations of Displacement

The report indicates that the displacement primarily originated from the governorates of Al Hudaydah, Taiz, and the capital, Sana’a. Specifically, 12 families relocated to Marib, 8 families moved to Al Hudaydah, and 5 families sought refuge in Taiz. These movements reflect the ongoing instability and insecurity in these areas.

Reasons for Displacement

The report reveals that 68% of the newly displaced families, accounting for 17 families, fled due to safety and security concerns. In contrast, 8 families, or 32%, left their homes due to economic hardships linked to the ongoing conflict. These statistics highlight the multifaceted nature of the crisis affecting Yemen.

Humanitarian Needs of Displaced Families

The IOM report emphasizes that 40% of the newly displaced families require shelter services. Additionally, 28% need cash assistance, while 24% lack access to food supplies. Furthermore, 8% of these families require non-food assistance. These figures illustrate the critical humanitarian needs that must be addressed to support displaced populations.

Overall Displacement Trends in 2023

Since the beginning of this year, the total number of displaced families has risen to 458, affecting 2,748 individuals. This increase reflects the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the urgent need for coordinated efforts to provide assistance and support to those affected.

The IOM continues to monitor the situation closely and calls for increased support to address the needs of displaced families in Yemen.
