UK Condemns Houthi Resumption of War in Yemen

The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the resumption of hostilities by Houthi militias in Yemen. Recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes on civilian infrastructure and energy facilities, have raised significant concerns.

Houthi Militias Held Responsible

In a press statement, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office attributed full responsibility for the crisis to the Iranian-backed Houthi militias. The statement emphasized that the escalation of the conflict in Yemen endangers the lives of Yemeni citizens and exacerbates the humanitarian suffering of those in dire need of assistance.

Threats to Regional Stability

The Foreign Office highlighted that the Houthi attacks threaten regional stability, maritime freedom, and vital trade routes through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Support for Yemen and Saudi Arabia

The UK reiterated its clear stance in support of the Republic of Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The statement affirmed, “The Republic of Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have the right to defend their security and sovereignty under international law.” Furthermore, the UK is collaborating with partners to promote regional stability, protect civilians, and ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid. The UK called on the Houthis to cease their attacks and de-escalate tensions immediately.
