Minister of Transport Discusses Cooperation with Qatari Counterpart

Doha Meeting Focuses on Transportation Collaboration

On October 23, 2023, Dr. Abdul Salam Humeid, Yemen’s Minister of Transport, met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Transport, in Doha. The two officials discussed various aspects of cooperation and coordination in the transportation sector.

Training Support for Aviation Personnel

The meeting took place during the ICAO Facilitation Conference (FALC 2025), organized by Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). During their discussions, they explored the possibility of providing training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of personnel at the General Authority of Civil Aviation and airports in liberated areas of Yemen.

Current Routes of Yemenia Airlines

Minister Humeid reviewed the current flight routes operated by Yemenia Airlines, the national carrier. The airline connects Aden International Airport with several airports in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Riyadh, Jeddah, Kuwait, and Dubai. Additionally, it offers flights to Cairo, Amman, India, Djibouti, and Ethiopia. Humeid expressed his hope to open Doha International Airport to Yemenia Airlines.

Request for Direct Flights to Doha

The Yemeni Minister formally requested the establishment of direct flights between Aden International Airport and Hamad International Airport in Doha. This initiative aims to facilitate travel for Yemeni citizens, as a significant community of over 40,000 Yemenis resides in Qatar. Humeid highlighted the challenges faced by this community due to the lack of direct flights, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the historical ties between the two nations.

Qatari Minister’s Response

In response, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani expressed his understanding of Yemen’s requests. He promised to direct the Qatari Civil Aviation Authority and relevant agencies to study these requests and take appropriate actions.

Attendees at the Meeting

The meeting also included the presence of Rajeh Badi, Yemen’s Ambassador to Qatar, and Captain Saleh bin Naheed, Head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing transportation links between Yemen and Qatar, fostering closer ties between the two countries.
