Enhancing Juvenile Justice: A Critical Discussion in Aden

In a pivotal gathering held today in Aden, the provisional capital, the Technical Committee for Enhancing the Juvenile Justice System convened under the leadership of Justice Minister Badr Al-Aradah. The meeting’s core agenda was to evaluate the progress of the implementation plan for the first and second halves of 2024.

Progress and Achievements in Juvenile Justice

The committee delved into the level of activity execution and the programs within the Juvenile Justice Project throughout 2024, highlighting the accomplishments achieved thus far. Additionally, the discussion extended to the organizational tasks linked to the Technical Committee, the workflow in the coordinating committees across provinces, and the juvenile legal aid report.

Recommendations and Strategic Enhancements

A set of recommendations emerged from the meeting, emphasizing the necessity of establishing prosecution offices and juvenile courts in provinces where they are currently nonexistent. Moreover, the continuation of capacity-building programs for child justice was underscored to enrich the knowledge of law enforcement entities.

Justice Minister Badr Al-Aradah underscored the importance of elevating the committee’s performance to meet the objectives outlined in the general plan. This enhancement aims to bolster the juvenile justice system and provide legal assistance, highlighting the significance of coordination among all relevant entities to activate the legal and administrative system effectively.

Review of Achievements and Challenges

Abdul Karim Baabad, the Deputy Minister for Court Affairs and Documentation and the committee chair, presented a report on the Technical Committee’s performance in the past months. The report covered activities, achievements, and ongoing projects aligned with the set goals. It also addressed the challenges encountered and the viable solutions to overcome these obstacles.

This meeting marks a significant step towards reinforcing the juvenile justice system in Yemen, reflecting a committed effort to ensure a fair and responsive legal framework for the youth.
