Governor Launches Water Distribution Initiative in Taiz

Efforts to Alleviate Water Crisis

Today, Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, inaugurated a new initiative by the Al-Shibani Trading Group aimed at distributing drinking water throughout the city. This initiative seeks to address the ongoing water crisis and pave the way for sustainable solutions.

Inauguration Ceremony Highlights

During the launch event, attended by the Deputy Governor for Services, Engineer Rashad Al-Akhali, Chairman of the Al-Shibani Group, Sheikh Abu Bakr Al-Shibani, and General Director Wajdi Al-Shibani, Governor Shamsan praised the group’s initiative. He emphasized that this effort exemplifies the private sector’s role in alleviating crises and reducing the hardships faced by citizens, especially amid the ongoing impacts of war and blockade.

Private Sector’s Role in Development

Governor Shamsan noted that Taiz boasts an organized and active private sector that significantly contributes to development. He described the private sector as a vital partner for local authorities in recovery efforts and service improvement. He asserted that this initiative represents an immediate solution, which will be followed by collaborative efforts to find long-term solutions to the water crisis in the governorate.

Water Distribution Plan

The governor explained that the allocated quantities of treated water will be distributed at various points across the city. This distribution will help mitigate the crisis while a comprehensive study for long-term solutions is underway, with the Al-Shibani Group as a key partner in implementation.

Meeting with Al-Shibani Group Leadership

This initiative follows a meeting held earlier today between the governor and the leadership of the Al-Shibani Group. They agreed to begin the process of desalinating and distributing ten million liters of potable water through 700 distribution points, known as “Sabeel,” across the city.

Phase One Launch

The first phase of the initiative commenced today, with the treatment of 500,000 liters of water. This water will be distributed using trucks from the organization, along with an additional 30 trucks supported by the group.

Commitment to Sustainable Solutions

The Chairman of the Al-Shibani Group stated that this step represents an urgent humanitarian response aimed at alleviating citizens’ suffering. He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to working closely with local authorities to achieve a permanent and sustainable solution to the water crisis. Plans include establishing a desalination station within the Al-Shibani factories and studying the creation of a dedicated, permanent desalination facility to serve the residents of the governorate.

Action Plan for Water Distribution

The meeting concluded with the governor directing the Crisis Management Committee to quickly prepare a water distribution plan for the three districts today, in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. He emphasized the need for necessary regulatory measures to control prices and prevent exploitation.

This initiative marks a significant step toward addressing the pressing water needs of Taiz’s residents, showcasing the collaborative efforts between the private sector and local government in overcoming challenges.
