Governor of Taiz Discusses Development and Humanitarian Interventions with Swiss Agency

Strengthening Sustainable Development Efforts

Today, Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, met with Nadine Andrea Yaghi, the program officer at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The discussion focused on enhancing sustainable development and humanitarian interventions aimed at alleviating the impacts of war in the province.

Acknowledging Humanitarian Contributions

Governor Shamsan praised the agency’s humanitarian efforts, particularly its project to rehabilitate damaged homes. This initiative has enabled many displaced families to return to their residences. He emphasized the importance of transitioning to the second phase of the project, alongside implementing quality interventions that yield quick results.

Local Authority Support and Environmental Concerns

The governor expressed the local authority’s readiness to facilitate the agency’s work. He called for support in the waste management sector and proposed relocating the garbage dump from the Al-Dabab area. This site poses significant health and environmental risks, especially as plans for a waste recycling plant emerge. Shamsan highlighted the agency as one of the most prominent international partners in development and humanitarian efforts.

Evaluating Ongoing Projects

In response, Nadine Yaghi explained that her visit aims to assess ongoing projects, particularly the rehabilitation of damaged homes. She noted the importance of monitoring progress through local partners and mentioned several upcoming projects and interventions planned for the next phase.

This collaboration between the Taiz governorate and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation underscores a commitment to rebuilding and improving the lives of those affected by conflict.
