In a troubling escalation, Houthi militias kidnapped Mohammed Marsh Al-Salmi, the former president of the Al-Aqsa Association in Ibb Governorate. This incident marks the fourth consecutive week of intensified actions targeting activists and dissenters.
Human Rights Organization “Rasd” reported that Al-Salmi was abducted on Friday evening while returning home in Ibb. His health condition is critical due to a previous traffic accident. Al-Salmi suffers from a rare heart disease and has only half a skull. He also experiences frequent seizures and convulsions, according to medical reports.
Rasd has urged the Houthi militia to release Al-Salmi immediately. The organization holds the group responsible for his physical and mental well-being. Additionally, they have appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit the Political Security Prison and assess his health status.
Al-Salmi’s kidnapping occurs as the Houthi militia promotes slogans supporting Palestine. This is particularly ironic given their previous raid on the Al-Aqsa Association’s headquarters in Sana’a, where they looted financial resources intended to support the Palestinian cause.
In recent weeks, the Houthi group has conducted a series of arrests targeting numerous academics and activists in Ibb, many of whom hold doctoral degrees. This crackdown appears to be part of a systematic effort to silence opposing voices.
The situation remains dire as the community calls for justice and the protection of human rights in the region.
