The national taekwondo team has celebrated a significant sporting achievement during the Second Open Championship of Al-Suwaiq Club 2024. This prestigious event took place at the Al-Khaboura Club hall in Muscat, Oman, from November 13 to 16. The championship attracted around 600 athletes from various countries, showcasing a high level of competition.
The team secured an impressive total of nine medals, which included six golds, two silvers, and one bronze. Additionally, the team received two special awards for “Best Player” and “Best Team” at the event.
In the youth category, Aissa Khalid Abdullah won gold and the title of Best Player in the 30 kg weight class. In the junior category, Ahmed Abdullah Farhan earned a silver medal in the 49 kg weight class.
In the youth division, Hussein Al-Faqih claimed a silver medal, while Amr Khalid took home a bronze. The team also excelled in the men’s categories, with Muath Najad and Ibrahim Al-Ariqi both winning gold in the 48 kg and 55 kg weight classes, respectively. Furthermore, Eyad Najad achieved gold in the 54 kg category, and Nasr Al-Din Ayash followed suit by winning gold in the 58 kg category. Abdullah Shakir also secured a gold medal in the 63 kg weight class.
Hassan Omar Bamzrooq, President of the Taekwondo Federation branch in Yemen, praised the team’s accomplishments in this unprecedented participation. He highlighted the dedication and hard work of the federation members and the national coach, which contributed to the team’s success.
This remarkable performance not only underscores the talent of the athletes but also reflects the growing prominence of taekwondo in Yemen. The national team’s achievements at the championship serve as a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes across the country.
