Yemeni Leaders Attend Arab Parliament Conference in Cairo

Today, Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakani, Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament, and Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghr, Speaker of the Shura Council, participated in the seventh conference of the Arab Parliament and heads of Arab councils and parliaments. This significant event took place at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt, in collaboration with the Arab Parliamentary Union.
Focus on Palestinian Support
The conference, attended by Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Engineer Wahi Aman and several members of both the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, centered on a document prepared by the Arab Parliament. This document aims to establish a unified Arab parliamentary stance to support the resilience of the Palestinian people and reject all proposals for their displacement. The initiative is titled “Arab Parliamentary Action Plan to Support the Resilience of the Palestinian People, Reject Displacement, and Foil Plans to Liquidate the Palestinian Cause.”
A Call for Unity and Resistance
In his address, Al-Barakani expressed his honor in representing Yemen at the conference. He conveyed greetings from the Yemeni people, who hope this meeting will serve as a genuine attempt to dispel the darkness engulfing the Arab world and pave the way for a brighter future. He emphasized the shocking reality that some wish to displace an entire nation to transform it into a tourist resort. Al-Barakani reaffirmed the Palestinians’ steadfastness in their land and identity, stating that their refusal to be displaced symbolizes their resistance to occupation and their right to establish a state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Warning Against Displacement Plans
Al-Barakani warned that the insidious displacement project, although not currently executed, remains a looming threat unless the Arab nations prepare and respond. He criticized Israel for its ongoing crimes and challenges to international law, noting its transition from the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza to aggression in the West Bank and the Golan Heights, as well as its occupation of new territories in Quneitra and the burning of villages in southern Lebanon.
Acknowledging Regional Support
He took a moment to express appreciation for Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Jordan, led by King Abdullah II, for their strong stance against displacement plans. Al-Barakani recognized Egypt’s historical role as a bastion of Arab unity and Jordan’s commitment to its responsibilities in the region.
Saudi Arabia’s Role in the Palestinian Cause
Al-Barakani also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in the Palestinian issue, praising King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their decisive response to the conspiracy against the Palestinians. He noted that their unwavering stance against Israeli provocations reflects a commitment to justice.
Justice as a Foundation for Peace
He asserted that peace cannot merely be a label; it must be rooted in justice and cannot be based on the occupation of others’ lands. Al-Barakani emphasized that the national and Arab soil holds sacred significance, akin to the holy valley where God spoke to Moses. He declared that no one should concede even an inch of this land.
Honoring Palestinian Resilience
Al-Barakani paid tribute to the Palestinian people for their legendary resilience against Israeli aggression. He acknowledged their unyielding spirit in the face of overwhelming force, which has not and will not break their resolve.
Yemen’s Struggles and Regional Support
Despite the challenges Yemen faces, particularly from the Houthi militias, Al-Barakani expressed gratitude to the countries supporting Yemen, especially the Saudi-led coalition and the United Arab Emirates. He also extended appreciation to Egypt for its unwavering support for Yemen and its people.
Commitment to the Parliamentary Document
In conclusion, Al-Barakani reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to the parliamentary document and the action plan prepared by the organizing committee for the conference, underscoring the importance of collective Arab efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause.
