The Security Committee of Taiz Governorate convened today under the leadership of Governor Nabil Shamsan. The meeting aimed to discuss recent military and security developments, as well as efforts to strengthen stability and security in the region.
The meeting included prominent military leaders, such as Major General Khaled Fadel, Commander of the Taiz Axis, and Major General Abu Bakr Al-Jaboli, Commander of the Fourth Mountain Infantry Brigade. Additionally, Major General Abdul Aziz Al-Majidi, Chief of Staff of the Axis, along with various military and security leaders, participated in the discussions. The committee reviewed several reports concerning the security situation in the city and various districts of the governorate.
The committee emphasized the importance of coordination between security agencies and military units to protect public and vital facilities, secure roadways, and pursue wanted terrorist elements. They also addressed the need to counter threats posed by Iranian-backed Houthi militias and affiliated terrorist organizations.
In a statement released after the meeting, the Security Committee praised the achievements of security forces in recent months. They highlighted successful operations that thwarted numerous terrorist and criminal plots aimed at disturbing public peace and instilling fear among citizens.
The committee noted the outcomes of a joint security and military campaign in the Al-Shamayatain district. This operation led to the arrest of several individuals linked to terrorist gangs collaborating with Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime.
The committee revealed that these arrested individuals had committed various crimes, including murder and vandalism, targeting both public and private properties. They also resisted law enforcement authorities in the temporary capital of Aden and the governorates of Taiz and Lahij. Notably, the suspects are connected to the murder of World Food Programme employee Moayed Hamidi in the city of Al-Turbah in July 2023.
The committee’s statement also reported the seizure of explosives, medium and light weapons, and vehicles rigged for use in sabotage operations. These materials belonged to the gang members who planned to target security, military, and civilian leaders, as well as government facilities in Taiz and other liberated governorates.
The statement reaffirmed the commitment of relevant authorities to pursue legal actions against these criminal elements. They will continue to track down fugitives to bring them to justice and ensure they face appropriate consequences for their actions.
This proactive approach underscores the determination of Taiz’s security forces to maintain peace and stability in the region amidst ongoing challenges.
