The Ministry of Public Health and Population, through its Population Sector, has successfully wrapped up the second round of its Maternal and Child Health Campaign. This initiative took place from July 26 to July 31, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The campaign targeted 11 districts across the governorates of Abyan, Lahij, and Marib.
Dr. Iqbal Shaif, the Director General of Reproductive Health, announced that the campaign achieved impressive results. The coverage rate reached 80.4%, with health and awareness services reaching 332,423 women out of a target of 413,492. Dr. Shaif emphasized the effectiveness of the preparations and field implementation.
The campaign utilized 486 fixed and mobile health teams to promote awareness about maternal and child health, family planning, and the importance of breastfeeding. These teams successfully accessed remote areas, displaced persons camps, and neighborhoods in critical need.
Dr. Shaif praised the pivotal role of the UNFPA in providing technical and logistical support. She highlighted that such campaigns form a crucial foundation for expanding reproductive health services, despite the challenges facing Yemen’s healthcare sector.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in improving maternal and child health in Yemen, demonstrating the commitment of both the Ministry of Public Health and its partners to enhance health outcomes in the region.
