Minister Discusses Humanitarian Response with Red Cross and OCHA

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mohammed Al-Faqmi, met today in the temporary capital of Aden with Amira Kadiar, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Aden. They addressed the latest developments in the humanitarian situation and medical needs in affected areas.

Supporting Health Facilities and Medical Supplies

The meeting included Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Nizar Bashihab and Assistant Undersecretary at the ministry, Mansour Zaid. They discussed ways to support hospitals and health facilities, as well as the provision of medical supplies. The importance of enhancing coordination between government entities, the ICRC, and humanitarian organizations was emphasized. They also highlighted the need to exchange information regarding the needs of displaced persons and humanitarian gaps. This coordination aims to ensure that aid reaches those in need while avoiding duplication of efforts.

Joint Efforts with OCHA

In a separate meeting, Minister Al-Faqmi discussed joint efforts with Peter Eikau, Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen. They focused on urgent humanitarian and relief needs in areas affected by conflict and the mechanisms for coordinating to strengthen the humanitarian response.

Assessing Humanitarian Needs

The discussions included mechanisms for monitoring and assessing humanitarian needs in affected areas. They aimed to prioritize assistance for displaced families and the most vulnerable groups and regions, particularly in the sectors of food, health, water, and shelter.

Both parties underscored the importance of continuing coordination and unifying efforts to ensure a swift and effective humanitarian response, enhancing the delivery of aid to those most in need.
