The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has launched its annual fundraising campaign for the winter of 2026-2027. The campaign aims to provide winter assistance to at least 9 million people in Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, and Afghanistan.
UN spokesperson Stefan Dujarric highlighted that funding shortages and rising energy prices increase the needs of refugees, internally displaced persons, and affected communities as winter approaches. He emphasized that at least 9 million individuals require additional support to cope with harsh winter conditions in these four war-affected countries.
Dujarric stated that through this annual campaign, aimed at individuals and private donors, the UNHCR seeks to raise at least 50 million US dollars. This funding will cover winter needs for the 2026-2027 period and offset significant budget declines.
The campaign focuses on providing essential humanitarian support to the most vulnerable groups, including refugees, internally displaced persons, and affected families. The goal is to help them navigate the challenges of winter and secure their basic needs.
