Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak Visits Al-Wadiah Border Crossing to Enhance Traveler Experience

Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak conducted a field visit to the Al-Wadiah border crossing to assess the procedures in place for handling travelers and addressing their concerns. This visit aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the new management team at the crossing and to gather feedback from travelers about their experiences.

Engaging with Travelers

During the visit, Prime Minister bin Mubarak toured the border crossing area, engaging directly with travelers. He listened to their feedback regarding the processing of their transactions, as well as their experiences when entering or leaving Saudi Arabia through this border point. He emphasized the need for the border management to prohibit any illegal fees imposed on travelers and instructed that anyone found guilty of such practices should face appropriate consequences.

Addressing Congestion and Management Issues

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of implementing sustainable measures to prevent overcrowding at the border, particularly for expatriates, pilgrims, and visitors traveling to and from Saudi Arabia. He urged the border management to expedite the rotation of staff as mandated by a Cabinet decision, highlighting the commitment of the Ministries of Finance and Transport to facilitate this staffing adjustment.

Reviewing Customs Fees

Additionally, bin Mubarak called for a review of the “tariff” on customs data for vehicles entering Yemen by land. This request came in response to complaints regarding significant increases in these fees. He assured the public that the government would follow up with the relevant authorities to address the imposed charges on expatriates’ vehicles entering the country through the border.

Continued Reforms in Border Management

The Prime Minister received an update from the Director General of the border crossing, Amer Al-Saiari, regarding the actions taken to resolve various issues since the new management took over. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at alleviating the burdens faced by travelers and streamlining their processes.

Development Project for Al-Wadiah Border Crossing

In a related development, Prime Minister bin Mubarak visited the project for the development and rehabilitation of the Al-Wadiah land crossing in Hadramout Governorate. This initiative, implemented by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, aims to enhance the crossing’s efficiency and capacity for travelers and commercial activities, while also improving the transportation infrastructure in Yemen.

Project Components and Enhancements

During the visit, the Prime Minister learned about the components of the development project, which include the construction of new buildings, rehabilitation of existing structures, and completion of roadworks and public spaces. The project also focuses on enhancing security measures, including surveillance systems, as well as improving water and energy sources at the crossing.

Accompanying Officials

Prime Minister bin Mubarak was accompanied by several officials during his visit, including Finance Minister Salem bin Burik, Minister of Water and Environment Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Minister of Industry and Trade Mohammed Al-Ashwal, Minister of Electricity and Energy Mani bin Yamin, Chief of General Staff and Joint Operations Commander Brigadier General Sagheer bin Aziz, and other key officials.
