Prime Minister Meets UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen

On Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak welcomed Julian Harnis, the UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen, in the temporary capital of Aden. The two officials discussed the anticipated outcomes of the joint coordination framework between the Yemeni government and the United Nations. This framework aims to identify priority interventions based on urgent needs.

Humanitarian Response Programs Under Review

During their meeting, they reviewed the humanitarian response programs led by the United Nations and its affiliated organizations in Yemen. They also addressed strategies to overcome the decline in international support. Furthermore, they highlighted the ongoing violations committed by Houthi militias against relief workers and employees, as well as the relocation of organizational offices to Aden.

Commitment to Humanitarian Community

The Prime Minister reassured the humanitarian community that the government would take all necessary coordinated measures. These actions aim to ensure that the classification of Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization targets their main objectives without harming vulnerable social groups or disrupting essential food and life-saving commodity imports. He emphasized the importance of supporting the work of the Joint Permanent Coordination Committee between the government and the United Nations in Yemen. This committee focuses on prioritizing interventions and transitioning from humanitarian aid to early recovery and sustainable development.

The discussions between Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak and UN Resident Coordinator Julian Harnis reflect a commitment to addressing Yemen’s pressing humanitarian needs. By fostering collaboration and prioritizing effective interventions, both parties aim to improve the situation for those affected by the ongoing crisis.
