Prime Minister Salim Saleh Bin Brek commended the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and the United Kingdom. He highlighted the UK’s humanitarian and developmental interventions across various sectors. Bin Brek emphasized the UK’s crucial role in supporting Yemen’s economic recovery plan and addressing the urgent priorities of the government, particularly in alleviating citizens’ hardships.
During a meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Bin Brek welcomed UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif. They discussed the latest developments in national, regional, and international contexts. The Prime Minister acknowledged the UK’s supportive stance towards the Yemeni government in fulfilling its responsibilities to achieve economic and social stability for its citizens. They also reviewed the ongoing implementation of public reform programs.
The discussion included a follow-up on the recommendations from the international meeting aimed at mobilizing support for the Yemeni government, held earlier this year in New York. They addressed efforts to protect maritime routes and counter the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s attacks on international shipping lines and commercial vessels.
Ambassador Abda Sharif presented the UK’s plan to gather international support for the Yemeni government. She outlined the Prime Minister’s priorities to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and enhance public services for the Yemeni people.
Prime Minister Bin Brek outlined the government’s immediate priorities, which involve coordinated efforts with the Presidential Leadership Council. Key initiatives include implementing rapid solutions to the electricity crisis, stabilizing the national currency, and reducing citizens’ suffering. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing economic, financial, and administrative reforms. Bin Brek also stressed the importance of international support to bolster the government’s efforts, especially in light of emerging challenges and changes at the regional and international levels.
In her remarks, Ambassador Sharif reiterated her congratulations to Prime Minister Bin Brek on his appointment and expressed her best wishes for his success in these challenging times. She reaffirmed the UK’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Yemeni people and expressed eagerness to work with the Prime Minister to strengthen bilateral relations and promote peace and stability.
The meeting also included the presence of Jamal Bin Ghanem, the Prime Minister’s technical team leader.
