Prime Minister Leads First Cabinet Meeting in Aden

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek convened the first meeting of the Cabinet in Aden, focusing on implementing directives from President Rashad Al-Alimi. The discussions centered on the government’s priorities for the upcoming phase, particularly those affecting citizens’ daily lives and efforts to restore state authority while ending the Iran-backed Houthi rebellion.

Immediate Action Plans for Government Ministries

Prime Minister bin Brek instructed ministries and relevant agencies to develop urgent action plans within 100 days. These plans should outline objectives, policies, performance indicators, and execution monitoring. He emphasized that the plans must be realistic, actionable, and primarily address citizens’ essential needs.

Continuous Cabinet Engagement on Key Issues

The Cabinet affirmed its commitment to ongoing meetings to address economic, service, and health-related issues. The government aims to collaborate closely with local authorities in liberated provinces to alleviate citizens’ hardships and stay updated on developments.

A New Chapter of Collaboration

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister bin Brek highlighted that this meeting marks the first since his appointment by President Al-Alimi. He expressed his eagerness to work alongside ministers to fulfill their responsibilities and serve the nation, which requires dedicated effort now more than ever.

Bin Brek acknowledged the significant challenges facing the government, including a severe humanitarian crisis, economic decline, and complex political and security issues. He stated, “We bear a historic responsibility that allows no room for hesitation or delay. Our government exists to serve the citizen, with no authority above that.”

The Prime Minister reassured the public, saying, “We hear your cries, understand your struggles, and feel your pain. Our top priority is to serve you and alleviate your suffering. We will work tirelessly to improve essential services and restore financial stability.” He committed to being a transparent government that does not make empty promises.

Bin Brek outlined his priorities, which include maintaining the state’s legal status, advancing economic reforms, combating corruption, and ensuring the stability of essential services like electricity and water. He also emphasized the need to restore public trust and work collaboratively with local authorities.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Saudi-led coalition for their ongoing support, urging them to continue and increase assistance during these critical times.

He called on Cabinet members to work as a unified team, emphasizing the importance of national spirit over divisive politics. He reiterated the commitment to uphold the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council and prioritize citizens’ needs.

Addressing Electricity and Health Challenges

The Cabinet reviewed a report from the Minister of Electricity regarding the power situation in Aden and liberated provinces. The report outlined urgent interventions needed to reduce electricity outages this summer. The Cabinet reaffirmed its support for measures aimed at improving electricity services.

Additionally, the Cabinet discussed a report from the Minister of Health on efforts to combat the spread of diseases like fevers and diarrhea. The report highlighted the need for increased funding and resources to address these health challenges, especially with the influx of migrants from the Horn of Africa.

The Cabinet urged regional and international partners to support the Ministry of Health and local authorities in combating disease outbreaks. They emphasized the need for enhanced community awareness programs and pledged to support health sector capabilities.

Water Supply Issues in Taiz

The Cabinet reviewed a detailed report on water supply challenges in Aden and liberated provinces, particularly in Taiz. The report included an analysis of the current water crisis and proposed urgent solutions to alleviate citizens’ suffering.

Coordination for Water Solutions

The Cabinet directed the Ministry of Water and Environment to coordinate with relevant ministries and local authorities to implement the proposed solutions and ensure timely execution.

Update on Yemeni Fishermen Detained in Somalia

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries updated the Cabinet on the situation of Yemeni fishermen detained in Somalia. He outlined ongoing efforts to secure their release and safe return home.
