The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Combating Smuggling to discuss government matrix implementation and tighten border controls.

Prime Minister Leads Meeting on Anti-Smuggling Committee

On Thursday, Prime Minister Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani chaired a meeting of the High Committee for Combating Smuggling in the temporary capital, Aden. The meeting focused on discussing the implementation status of the government matrix for combating smuggling. This initiative forms part of the comprehensive and decisive government measures aimed at protecting sovereign ports and deterring smuggling activities and smugglers. The goal is to undermine the war economy and the funding sources for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

Review of Anti-Smuggling Measures

During the meeting, the committee reviewed a report detailing the actions taken to implement the Presidential Leadership Council’s decision to close smuggling outlets. The committee presented its findings and recommendations regarding these outlets. It emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination among relevant authorities to ensure strict enforcement of measures in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

Strengthening Oversight on Dual-Use Materials

Prime Minister Al-Zandani stressed the need to tighten oversight on dual-use materials, parts, and equipment. He called for updating the regulations governing their trade and standardizing the controls among the relevant authorities. This approach aims to prevent these materials from reaching the Houthi terrorist militia or being used in activities that threaten national security. He underscored that combating smuggling requires a comprehensive institutional effort and continuous coordination among customs, security, military, and regulatory agencies. This coordination ensures effective control over land and sea ports, preventing the passage of weapons, prohibited materials, and the smuggling of money and precious metals. It also aims to protect state revenues, the banking sector, and legitimate trade.

Customs Authority Report

Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Qabati, head of the Customs Authority, presented an overview of the measures taken by the authority in its fight against smuggling. He highlighted the significant seizures made during the current year.
