Meeting Highlights Bilateral Relations

Today, Dr. Shaye’ Mohsen Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Diego Martínez-Pello, Spain’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Global Issues. The two leaders discussed opportunities to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors.

Current National and Regional Issues

During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in Yemen and the broader region. They addressed ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen, particularly in light of the persistent challenges posed by the Houthi militia and its supporters in Tehran. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of safeguarding navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, while supporting the Yemeni government in fulfilling its responsibilities during these exceptional circumstances.

Support for Yemen’s Government and People

Prime Minister Al-Zandani praised Spain’s unwavering support for the Yemeni government and its people in international forums. He highlighted the historical ties between Yemen and Spain, expressing Yemen’s eagerness to strengthen cooperation in economic, investment, and developmental areas. He specifically mentioned the potential benefits of leveraging Spanish expertise in vital sectors, particularly fisheries, to bolster economic recovery and stimulate sustainable development opportunities.
