The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation has expressed deep concern regarding reports that Houthi militias are using a United Nations building in the Al-Mokha district of Taiz Governorate as a military operations center and a launch pad for missiles. The ministry highlighted that the Houthis exploit the building’s protected status under international law to cover their criminal activities.
In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry emphasized the seriousness of these actions, which pose a threat to the safety of humanitarian facilities, civilians, maritime shipping vessels, and international navigation security in the Red Sea.
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation warned against converting buildings designated for UN and humanitarian work into sites for military command, weapon storage, or launching operations. The ministry stressed that respecting these facilities and protecting their humanitarian mission requires keeping them away from combat activities and preventing their use as a cover for threatening civilian safety and maritime routes.
The ministry urged the United Nations and its relevant agencies to take immediate action to document any military use of their facilities. They called for the removal of weapons and armed elements from these sites and for necessary measures to protect them and deter any threats to the safety of their personnel and humanitarian facilities.
