The President of the Presidential Leadership Council has appointed two new members to the council.

New Appointments in Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council

On Thursday, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council issued Decision No. (4) for the year 2026, appointing two new members to the council: Major General Mahmoud Ahmed Salem Al-Sabhi and Dr. Salem Ahmed Said Al-Khanbashi.

Decision Details

The decision follows a thorough review of several key documents, including:

  • The Constitution of the Republic of Yemen
  • The Gulf Initiative and its Implementation Mechanism
  • The Power Transfer Declaration, as outlined in Decision No. (9) for 2022, which established the Presidential Leadership Council
  • The Law Regulating the Activities of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority, as stated in Law No. (119) for 2025

Additionally, the council noted the vacancy left by Aidarus Al-Zubaidi, who is under investigation for high treason, as per Council Decision No. (1) for 2026. The council also acknowledged the permanent health issues of Faraj Salmin Al-Bahssani, which led to his removal from the council under Decision No. (3) for 2026.

Appointments Announced

The council made the following appointments:

  1. Major General Mahmoud Ahmed Salem Al-Sabhi joins the Presidential Leadership Council as a member.
  2. Dr. Salem Ahmed Said Al-Khanbashi also becomes a member while retaining his position as Governor of Hadhramaut.

This decision takes effect immediately and will be published in the official gazette.
