Virtual Meeting Focuses on Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Today, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, held a virtual meeting with Stephen Fagin, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen. The discussion centered on enhancing and developing economic and developmental cooperation between the two nations.

Achievements in Economic Reforms Highlighted

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the progress made in economic and financial reforms, supported by the United States and other development partners. They emphasized the importance of strengthening the capabilities of the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden and improving financial and banking oversight systems.

Private Sector Involvement and Investment Opportunities

The conversation also addressed opportunities for increasing private sector participation in development and investment. The government’s efforts to create a conducive business environment were discussed, including reviewing investment legislation and developing public-private partnership policies. Additionally, they highlighted the significance of building institutional capacities and training national personnel, along with American exchange programs and scholarships.

Appreciation for Ongoing U.S. Support

Minister Al-Zuba expressed the Yemeni government’s gratitude for the continuous American support for Yemen and its institutions. She outlined the government’s priorities in economic recovery, improving essential services, and enhancing institutional governance.

Commitment to Ongoing Coordination

Both the Minister and the Ambassador reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation. They aim to strengthen the bilateral partnership to serve the interests of both countries and support recovery and stability efforts in Yemen.
