The Organization of Islamic Cooperation emphasizes the vital humanitarian role of UNRWA.

OIC Commends UNRWA’s Humanitarian Role

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has praised the political, legal, and humanitarian efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The OIC emphasized the importance of UNRWA continuing to provide essential services, including education, healthcare, and social protection, to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and refugee camps abroad.

Importance of Protecting UNRWA and Its Institutions

The OIC underscored the unity of the Palestinian people, both in their homeland and in the diaspora. It highlighted the legal, political, and geographical significance of maintaining the territorial integrity of the occupied State of Palestine, which includes the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. The organization called for respect for UNRWA’s role, urging the protection of its institutions and the preservation of its mandate as outlined in UN General Assembly Resolution 302 of 1949 across its five operational areas.

Rejection of Attempts to Undermine UNRWA

The OIC firmly rejected any attempts to diminish, eliminate, or replace the vital role of UNRWA. The organization pointed out that UNRWA serves as a cornerstone in protecting Palestinian refugees and delivering humanitarian services. It remains an integral part of international efforts to support the rights of the Palestinian people.

Call for Enhanced Financial and Political Support

In conclusion, the General Secretariat urged member states, international entities, and donors to increase financial, political, legal, and media support for UNRWA. This assistance is crucial for enabling the agency to continue its humanitarian mission for millions of Palestinian refugees who rely on its essential services for survival.
