On Wednesday, 12 Palestinians died and 42 others sustained injuries due to an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood in southwestern Gaza City, according to the Al-Shifa Medical Complex.
The complex reported that the strike hit a vehicle towing a cart, while local sources indicated that an Israeli aircraft targeted a public bus in the same area. Additionally, a Palestinian woman died in an airstrike on an apartment in Gaza City, and a girl was injured by gunfire from occupation forces in Khan Younis.
Later on Wednesday evening, two Palestinian youths were killed, and others suffered various injuries from an airstrike that struck a gathering of Palestinians in Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
Ongoing Shelling and Ground Incursions
Occupation forces continue to carry out artillery shelling and open fire from military vehicles and drones towards the eastern areas of the Gaza Strip, resulting in widespread destruction of Palestinian property.
In the West Bank, an individual was injured by occupation forces during a raid on the Faraa refugee camp south of Tubas, while an elderly man suffered severe beating in Nablus.
Context of Escalation
Israel resumed its bombardment of the Gaza Strip on March 18 after a two-month hiatus, following the implementation of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas on January 19. This agreement faltered due to stalled negotiations regarding the extension of the first phase or the transition to the second phase of the agreement. The ceasefire was supposed to continue either through an extension of the first phase or by entering the second phase, but disagreements between Israel and Hamas prevented this from happening.
