The Ministry of Water and Environment denies claims by Al-Maliki’s office regarding unpaid dues for assigned projects.

Ministry of Water and Environment Refutes Claims by Al-Maliki Trading Office

The Ministry of Water and Environment has firmly denied allegations made by Al-Maliki Trading and Contracting Office regarding unpaid dues for projects assigned to them by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Clarification on Financial Transactions

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the ministry emphasized that its Water Emergency and Environmental Sanitation Unit closely monitored the claims circulating on social media and various news outlets. The ministry categorically stated that these allegations are completely unfounded.

The statement clarified that Al-Maliki Trading Office received all its payments through direct bank transfers from UNICEF. The funds were deposited into the office’s account at the International Bank of Yemen in three separate installments. The first payment occurred on March 3, 2024, followed by a second payment on April 23, 2024, and the final payment on May 30, 2024. These transactions were based on the unit’s submission of achievement reports in accordance with the executed work and the standard procedures for such contracts.

Banking Issues Not Related to Ministry

The ministry pointed out that the inability of Al-Maliki Trading Office to withdraw the transfers from the International Bank of Yemen is a banking issue, not a concern of the ministry or the funding agency. The ministry clarified that it does not have any authority or influence over the internal banking operations of the International Bank of Yemen or any commercial banks operating in areas controlled by Houthi militias.

Call for Responsible Reporting

The Ministry of Water and Environment urged all media outlets and social media activists to exercise caution when disseminating information or data. The ministry encouraged them to verify the accuracy of such claims by reaching out to the ministry or its relevant units for confirmation.

This statement aims to ensure transparency and maintain trust in the operations funded by international organizations in Yemen.
