Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, met with several experts from German research and study centers focused on Yemen. They reviewed the latest developments in the country, particularly the escalation of Houthi militia activities since June and the resulting severe humanitarian crisis.
Dr. Al-Zouba explained that the Houthi militia intensified its attacks following the landing of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard-linked Mahan Airplane at Al-Hudaydah Airport. This aircraft reportedly carried Iranian experts, along with funds and advanced weapons intended to bolster the militia’s military escalation, violating Yemen’s sovereignty and international laws and resolutions.
The minister noted that the militia increased its assaults on the western coast and Bab al-Mandab prior to the liberation of those areas as part of the “Dawn of Yemen” operation. She also addressed the ongoing Houthi attacks within Yemen and across borders, emphasizing that their targeting of Saudi Arabian territory threatens regional peace and security. Furthermore, she highlighted the militia’s assaults on civilian and health facilities in Taiz, as well as the continued siege imposed on the city, which has dire humanitarian consequences for civilians, particularly women and children.
Dr. Al-Zouba affirmed the crucial role that research and study centers play in accurately conveying the situation in Yemen and amplifying the voices of Yemenis to official and public circles in Germany.
In response, the German experts expressed their solidarity with Yemeni civilians facing violations. They underscored the importance of supporting the Yemeni government and addressing the urgent needs of the population through humanitarian and relief programs. They also stressed the necessity of giving more attention to the Yemeni issue and conveying the priorities of Yemenis to decision-making circles in Germany and Europe.
The meeting included the presence of Yemen’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Louay Al-Iryani.
