Ministry of Interior Reports Significant Crime Control Achievements in 2024

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior announced that it successfully apprehended over 13,000 criminal offenses out of 20,000 recorded in the liberated provinces during 2024. This announcement came during a press conference held in the temporary capital, Aden.

Overview of Achievements

Captain Haitham Al-Jaradi, the Director of the Security Media Center, highlighted the ministry’s accomplishments across various sectors, including security, police, and humanitarian services. These achievements reflect a comprehensive security strategy developed under the leadership of Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Haidan.

Commitment to Development and Training

Al-Jaradi emphasized the ministry’s ongoing commitment to modernizing security apparatuses and enhancing human resources through training and qualification programs. This initiative aims to ensure operational readiness under various circumstances.

Innovative Security Measures

The ministry has also focused on innovating security methods to address evolving threats from organized crime and terrorism. Additionally, efforts to improve services for citizens and streamline procedures in public institutions have been prioritized.

Crime Statistics

In terms of crime statistics, the security forces recorded a total of 20,641 criminal offenses, with 13,619 successfully resolved. Meanwhile, 7,022 cases remain under investigation for the year 2025. Non-criminal incidents totaled 1,108.

Security Operations and Weapons Seizures

The ministry reported that security units conducted 728,436 operations throughout the past year, leading to the arrest of 1,386 individuals wanted for various offenses. Furthermore, authorities seized 21,796 weapons during these operations.

Digitization and Technological Advancements

The Ministry of Interior has made significant strides in digitizing services and incorporating modern technology. Al-Jaradi announced the launch of the smart electronic card project at the end of 2023, which aims to combat corruption and dual employment within state institutions.

Traffic Incident Reports

In 2024, authorities recorded 4,190 traffic accidents, marking a 12% increase from the previous year. These incidents resulted in 492 fatalities and injuries to 3,292 individuals. The financial losses from these accidents reached approximately 5.57 billion Yemeni Rials, with 35,444 traffic violations documented in the liberated provinces.

Passenger Movement Statistics

The total number of travelers arriving and departing through land, sea, and air ports reached 3,366,793 in 2024. Among them, 1,551,313 were arrivals, including 1,355,669 Yemenis, 119,516 Arabs, and 76,128 foreigners. Departures included 1,612,123 Yemenis, 127,784 Arabs, and 75,573 foreigners.

Civil Services Overview

The Civil Status and Civil Registry Authority issued 344,421 smart electronic identity cards, 66,873 family cards, and 154,938 birth certificates, including 301 for foreigners. Additionally, the Civil Defense Authority responded to 226 fires in the liberated provinces, resulting in 10 fatalities.

Strengthening Community Relations

Al-Jaradi confirmed that the Ministry of Interior prioritizes strengthening relationships between security personnel and citizens. This initiative includes implementing effective awareness programs and national media campaigns to enhance community awareness of security issues.

Preparing for Future Challenges

In conclusion, Al-Jaradi underscored the importance of the ongoing awareness campaign for the first quarter of the current year. This initiative aims to bolster security readiness and prepare for potential confrontations with the Houthi militia, as the situation continues to evolve.
