Ministry of Industry and Trade Destroys Expired Food Products in Aden

In a decisive action today, the Ministry of Industry and Trade destroyed two tons of expired food products in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This operation occurred at the request of a local trader and involved oversight from relevant authorities.

Details of the Destruction Process

The destruction took place at the Al-Ni’ama landfill, where officials executed a complete crushing of the expired items. The operation included various products such as soft drinks, juices, and biscuits. Dr. Aatif Haider, the Deputy Minister of Industry for Internal Trade, attended the event alongside a committee formed by the Aden Office of Industry and Trade, the Cleanliness Fund, and other related entities.

Emphasis on Consumer Safety

In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Dr. Haider emphasized the importance of compliance among traders. He urged them not to sell counterfeit or expired goods, nor products that have suffered from poor storage conditions. He highlighted that selling such items constitutes a crime punishable by law, as it poses significant risks to consumer health and safety.

Strengthening Regulatory Efforts

Dr. Haider praised the field monitoring efforts conducted by the Offices of Industry and Trade. These efforts aim to combat counterfeit goods and commercial fraud. He stressed the need to intensify regulatory actions, apprehend violators, and refer them to the Public Prosecution for legal action.

This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers in Yemen. By actively addressing the issue of expired and counterfeit products, the Ministry aims to foster a healthier marketplace for all citizens.
