The National Program for Combating Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases, under the Ministry of Public Health and Population, launched a series of training courses and community awareness campaigns today in the temporary capital of Aden. This initiative aims to combat dengue fever and other related illnesses, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The awareness campaign will engage 400 community volunteers over eight days, including two days dedicated to training before the campaign’s implementation. The initiative will cover 20 districts across eight governorates: Hadramaut, Aden, Shabwa, Marib, Al-Dhale’e, Lahij, Abyan, and Taiz.
Dr. Abdullah Dahan, the Deputy Minister of Public Health and Population, emphasized the campaign’s significance in raising community awareness. He noted that the initiative aims to reduce the incidence of two diseases that cause numerous fatalities and lead to severe complications, such as kidney failure. Importantly, these diseases are preventable.
Dr. Yasser Abdullah Baheesh, the Director General of the National Program for Combating Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases, outlined the campaign’s objectives and the operational plans for the teams in the governorates. He highlighted that the campaign seeks to curb the spread of fevers, which are expected to increase during Ramadan due to changes in community behavior.
Dr. Freema, the Acting Representative of the World Health Organization in Yemen, underscored the importance of community participation and the vital role of volunteers in combating diseases. She stressed the need for collaborative efforts between community members and official entities to create impactful changes that will help reduce disease transmission.
This comprehensive campaign aims not only to educate the public but also to mobilize community action against vector-borne diseases, ultimately striving for a healthier future for all.
