Yemen's Health Ministry Discusses UN Support for Medical Equipment

A meeting took place today in the temporary capital of Aden, featuring Dr. Abdulraqeeb Al-Haidari, the Assistant Undersecretary for Population Affairs at the Ministry of Health, and a delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The discussion focused on strategies to support the health sector with essential medical equipment and ensure its sustainability according to established standards.

Streamlining Administrative Processes

The meeting also included Irafat Al-Zandani, the Director General of Medical Equipment at the Ministry. Participants emphasized the ministry’s role in facilitating administrative and logistical processes to expedite the delivery of equipment to targeted health facilities. They highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the ministry and UNFPA to identify priorities based on the health sector’s needs.

Ensuring Quality and Local Support

Dr. Al-Haidari stressed the necessity for the medical equipment provided to comply with approved health standards. He advocated prioritizing local markets to ensure the availability of maintenance services and ongoing technical support. In cases where equipment is sourced from abroad, he insisted on selecting brands with official agencies in Yemen to guarantee the sustainability of operations through the provision of spare parts and regular maintenance services.

Strengthening Partnerships for Quality Healthcare

Al-Zandani underscored the importance of enhancing effective partnerships between the ministry and international organizations. He noted that such collaborations are crucial for providing high-quality medical equipment that can significantly improve health services across various provinces.

UNFPA’s Commitment to Yemen’s Health Sector

The UNFPA delegation reaffirmed the fund’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s health sector. They pledged to address the actual needs of health facilities while adhering to the highest standards. Additionally, they acknowledged the necessity of ensuring ongoing maintenance and technical support for the provided equipment.
