A tragic incident occurred in the Naham district, east of Sana’a, where a 44-year-old man lost his life due to a landmine explosion left by the Houthi militia. This marks the second such incident in just over a week.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Ali Mabkhout Al-Asimi, a resident of Al-Hanashat in Naham, was tending to his sheep in Jabal Yam when the landmine detonated. The explosion resulted in immediate fatal injuries, and he died on the spot.
The organization Witnesses for Human Rights reported the incident on Sunday, highlighting the ongoing dangers posed by Houthi landmines. These explosives continue to claim civilian lives and threaten the safety of farmers and shepherds in various areas of Naham. The organization criticized the lack of effective efforts to remove these mines or hold those responsible for planting them accountable.
This incident adds to a growing list of casualties from landmines in the region. On January 31, a woman also died in a similar explosion in Naham. According to the organization’s records, the total number of victims from Houthi landmines in the district has now reached 115, including both fatalities and injuries.
The persistent threat of landmines in Yemen, particularly in areas controlled by the Houthi militia, continues to endanger civilian lives. As the international community observes, the need for urgent action to address this humanitarian crisis becomes increasingly critical.
