Minister of Water and Environment Discusses Collaboration with Dutch Company Meta Meta

Virtual Meeting Focuses on Water Resource Management

Today, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, held a virtual meeting with the executive management of the Dutch company Meta Meta. The discussion centered on enhancing cooperation in the water and environmental sectors.

Key Areas of Collaboration

During the meeting, participants explored various avenues for collaboration. These included integrated water resource management, the development of information systems, and institutional capacity building. The conversation also reviewed ongoing projects, such as technical rehabilitation programs and hydrological studies in the Al-Tuban Delta and Wadi Mawza.

Emphasis on Data Reliability

Minister Al-Sharjabi praised Meta Meta’s contributions to Yemen since 2004. He emphasized that improving the reliability of water data is crucial for making informed decisions and enhancing the effectiveness of development interventions.

Infrastructure Damage Assessment Report

The Minister highlighted the importance of completing the infrastructure damage assessment report. This report will serve as a foundation for creating a technical roadmap to support reconstruction efforts and attract funding. He noted that the water crisis in Taiz remains a top priority for the ministry. Plans are underway to prepare technical studies in collaboration with UNICEF to find sustainable solutions. Additionally, the ministry aims to expand wastewater treatment projects and improve sanitation services in several cities.

Commitment from Meta Meta and Juba Group

In response, the Meta Meta and Juba Group teams expressed their readiness to strengthen collaboration with the ministry. They committed to supporting service improvement programs, capacity building, and financing plans.

This meeting marks a significant step toward addressing Yemen’s pressing water and environmental challenges, fostering partnerships that can lead to sustainable solutions.
