Minister of Water and Environment Discusses Training Program for Water Quality

Strategic Collaboration with Dutch Government

Today, Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, met with Jan Peter, the head of the donor coordination group for the water sector in Yemen. They discussed the ongoing arrangements for launching a specialized training program focused on water quality. This initiative targets technical and professional staff within the ministry and aligns with the existing collaboration between the ministry and the Dutch government, coordinated with development partners in the water sector.

Significant Support from the Netherlands

During a virtual meeting that included Professor Maria Kennedy, head of the Water Supply Engineering Chair at Delft University, Minister Al-Sharjabi praised the Dutch support for Yemen, particularly in the water sector. He emphasized the importance of the close partnership between the Ministry of Water and Environment and relevant Dutch institutions, especially Delft University, recognized as a leading global research center in water management.

Enhancing National Capacity

Minister Al-Sharjabi noted that the training program aligns with the ministry’s strategic vision to enhance national capacity and build technical and scientific skills. This initiative aims to improve the efficiency of the water sector and address increasing challenges, particularly as Yemen shifts towards desalination technologies as a strategic solution to water scarcity. He urged the expansion of the program to include as many specialists as possible, leveraging Dutch expertise in this vital area.

Commitment to Water Security

Jan Peter reaffirmed the Dutch government’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Water and Environment in developing technical capacities. He highlighted that the training program represents a significant step in collaborative efforts to enhance water security in Yemen and improve water resource management amid growing climate and environmental challenges.
