A Shift Towards Long-Term Projects

Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, highlighted the critical need to strengthen partnerships with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). He emphasized the transition from emergency support to sustainable projects, aiming for long-term developmental impact across various sectors.

Local Efforts Amid Challenges

During a meeting today with Mark Schumacher, the GIZ Country Director for Yemen, and his accompanying delegation, Lamlas discussed the local government’s ongoing efforts to improve conditions in the city. Despite facing significant challenges, he expressed the local authority’s support for GIZ’s decision to relocate its headquarters to Aden. Lamlas assured the delegation of full cooperation and readiness to provide necessary facilities for their operations.

Innovative Revenue Development Strategies

Governor Lamlas also shared insights into the local government’s initiatives to enhance revenue generation. He mentioned the implementation of an electronic network system across all districts and the activation of partnerships with the private sector to benefit the city. He stressed that transitioning from emergency aid to sustainable support remains a priority in all discussions with international organizations.

GIZ’s Commitment to Collaboration

In response, Mark Schumacher and his team presented an overview of key projects GIZ is currently executing in Yemen. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination with the local authority in Aden. Schumacher emphasized the importance of expanding project scopes to meet community needs and foster sustainable development opportunities.
