Minister of Planning Discusses Development Partnership with UN Official in Aden

In a significant meeting held today in Aden, the Acting Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mohammed Al-Faqmi, engaged with Laurent Bukera, the Acting Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the United Nations in Yemen. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Yemeni government and the UN.

New Development Cooperation Framework

The meeting included Dr. Nizar Bashihab, Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and Mansour Zaid, Assistant Undersecretary at the ministry. Participants reviewed the new development cooperation framework, emphasizing its alignment with government priorities and the National Development Plan for 2027–2029. This alignment aims to unify efforts and avoid duplicating frameworks and programs while strengthening the government’s role in leading and coordinating development work.

Resource Mobilization and Accountability

Both sides addressed the need for resource mobilization and development financing. They discussed mechanisms for monitoring, evaluation, and data sharing. Regular reporting to the ministry on activities, funding, and beneficiaries was highlighted as essential for enhancing mutual accountability and the effectiveness of interventions. Additionally, they underscored the importance of providing urgent humanitarian and relief assistance to displaced individuals from conflict-affected areas in Taiz, Al-Hudaydah, and Al-Bayda.

Strengthening Government Role in Humanitarian Response

The meeting also explored ways to bolster the government’s role in designing, implementing, and monitoring the humanitarian response plan. Participants discussed bridging the funding gap and the latest developments in unconditional cash transfer programs. They emphasized the need to resume support for beneficiary families and address cases that have stalled.

Transition of UN Offices to Aden

The discussion stressed the importance of relocating UN organizations and agencies to Aden. A clear timeline for completing this transition was deemed necessary to facilitate their operations and enhance coordination with government entities.

Continued Dialogue for Effective Assistance

Both parties reaffirmed the importance of ongoing dialogue and joint coordination. They believe that these efforts will improve the efficiency of aid and enhance its developmental and humanitarian impact in Yemen.

This meeting marks a crucial step in fostering a collaborative environment between the Yemeni government and international organizations, aiming to address the pressing needs of the population effectively.
