Minister of Planning Discusses Development Priorities with UNOPS

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mohammed Al-Faqmi, met today in the temporary capital of Aden with Rehana Zawar, the Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Yemen. They focused on the priorities and needs for essential development projects in service sectors, along with upcoming intervention plans.

Review of UNOPS Projects

The meeting included Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Bashihab, and the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Project Sector, Engineer Wazira Al-Sharmani. They reviewed UNOPS projects in education, energy, roads, and water. This review covered initiatives aimed at utilizing electricity loss, expanding access, and enhancing urban development units.

Emergency Response for Displaced Persons

The discussion also addressed the emergency response for displaced individuals. The team highlighted the provision of shelter, food assistance, and essential services, particularly water and sanitation in displacement camps. They coordinated efforts with the Executive Unit for Managing Displacement Camps while acknowledging the challenges facing humanitarian work.

Importance of Partnership and Coordination

Minister Al-Faqmi emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership with UNOPS. He urged that interventions should target priority sectors to improve essential services and support development efforts. He stressed the need for ongoing coordination with the ministry and aligning projects with actual needs and national plans.
