Minister of Justice Discusses Anti-Corruption Initiatives in Yemen

In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Justice Judge Badr Al-Aarda engaged with Arkan Al-Sablani, the Regional Advisor for Anti-Corruption and Integrity at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Abdulghani Al-Wajeeh, the UNDP Coordinator. The discussions focused on supporting justice projects and enhancing integrity in Yemen.

Key Discussions on Legislative and Technological Frameworks

The meeting, attended by Supreme Judicial Council member Judge Sabah Al-Alwani, reviewed the implementation mechanisms for recommendations from the first national workshop aimed at strengthening law enforcement against corruption. The discussions highlighted critical areas such as legislative surveys, electronic systems, and network connectivity. Participants also addressed the significant challenges facing the justice sector.

Emphasizing Judicial Rehabilitation Programs

The attendees underscored the importance of supporting judicial rehabilitation programs. They particularly noted the role of the Continuous Rehabilitation Department at the Higher Judicial Institute. Additionally, they discussed the need to enhance forensic capabilities, especially in the area of electronic evidence examination.

Strengthening Partnerships with the United Nations

Minister Al-Aarda emphasized the necessity of strengthening partnerships with UN programs to develop the institutional and technical framework of the judicial sector. He called for a transformative approach to anti-corruption efforts and integrity enhancement.

UN Support for Judicial Reform Initiatives

In response, Arkan Al-Sablani praised the Ministry of Justice’s efforts in activating judicial reform pathways. He reaffirmed the UNDP’s readiness to support priority projects aimed at fostering integrity and combating corruption in Yemen.

This meeting marks a crucial step towards improving Yemen’s judicial system and reinforcing the fight against corruption, with both national and international stakeholders committed to driving meaningful change.
