Houthi Militia Accused of Intimidation and Violence in Ibb Governorate

Minister of Information Calls for Unity Against Houthi Threats

The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has condemned the Houthi militia’s ongoing intimidation tactics in Ibb Governorate. He described these actions as attempts to suppress the murder of Sheikh Sadiq Abu Shaar, a local leader, and to forcibly disperse a peaceful protest by the victim’s family and supporters in Al-Sabain Square. Al-Eryani emphasized that these tactics reveal the militia’s involvement in this heinous crime and their role as protectors of murderers and criminals.

Houthi Militia’s Campaign of Revenge

In a recent press statement, Al-Eryani highlighted that the Houthi militia pursues a policy of revenge against the people of Ibb, who have historically resisted their extremist ideology imported from Iran. He noted that Ibb is the birthplace of significant historical figures, including the leader of the September Revolution, the martyr Ali Abdul-Maghni, and the inspiring voice of Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Maqalih. Thousands of brave soldiers, officers, and free intellectuals from Ibb have fought against the Houthi terrorist agenda, rejecting their attempts to break the will of the local population.

Rising Crime and Insecurity

Al-Eryani pointed out that the recent murder of Sheikh Abu Shaar is not an isolated incident. He accused the Houthi militia of providing protection to criminals involved in various offenses, including murder, theft, and sexual assault. These crimes have surged amid a climate of insecurity and the militia’s deliberate policies of ignorance and impoverishment in areas under their control.

Call for Solidarity Among Local Leaders

The Minister urged the elders, leaders, and prominent figures of Ibb Governorate to unite and take a strong stand against Houthi terrorism. He called for resistance to Houthi pressures and for an end to the systematic crimes and violations committed against the local population daily, which have crossed all red lines and disproportionately affect innocent civilians.

International Community Urged to Act

Al-Eryani appealed to the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to break their silence, which has emboldened the Houthi militia to continue their oppression of civilians. He called for the immediate classification of the Houthis as a “global terrorist organization,” the freezing of their assets, and the prosecution of their leaders and members involved in these crimes and violations.

The situation in Ibb Governorate remains tense as local leaders and residents face increasing threats from the Houthi militia. The need for a unified response against these acts of violence and intimidation is more urgent than ever.
