The Minister of Information stated that “Operation Decisive Storm” was a brave decision that saved Yemen and the region from Iran’s destructive agenda.

Saudi Arabia's Support for Yemen: A Historical Perspective

Minister Highlights Saudi Arabia’s Role in Supporting Legitimacy

Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar Al-Eryani emphasized the significance of Saudi Arabia’s announcement to form a coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen. This coalition, which includes the United Arab Emirates and several other allied nations, responded to a request from former President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Yemeni people’s call for assistance. The coalition’s actions aimed to counter Iranian attempts, through the Houthi militia, to seize control of Yemen and transform it into a platform for threatening regional and global security as part of the “Persian Crescent” project.

A Bold Arab Decision

In a recent press statement, Al-Eryani described the Arab decision, led by Saudi Arabia, as both courageous and historic. He noted that this decision reflected the wisdom of Saudi leadership and its commitment to Arab solidarity. The coalition’s intervention prevented Yemen from falling under Iranian influence, asserting that the military operations known as “Operation Decisive Storm” and “Operation Restore Hope” represented a decisive Arab stance that averted a strategic catastrophe.

Preventing Regional Threats

Al-Eryani pointed out that the Arab intervention safeguarded the region from the risk of transforming Yemen’s geography and its entire coastline into a base for threats to international navigation and piracy. This intervention also served as a tool for Tehran to disrupt global trade and supply chains.

Achievements of the Coalition

The minister reviewed the accomplishments of the legitimacy support coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, from 2015 until the announcement of the UN ceasefire in 2022. He highlighted that the coalition enabled the Yemeni national army to liberate 80% of Yemeni territory and secure 90% of the coastline. He noted that the military campaign could have achieved more if not for international interventions that imposed restrictions on liberating the capital, Sana’a, and the city of Hodeidah.

Neutralizing Houthi Threats

Al-Eryani added that the coalition successfully neutralized Houthi threats in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden by thwarting hundreds of terrorist attacks and destroying numerous explosive boats and naval mines. This effort also protected international maritime routes, despite the pressures faced by the coalition and the Yemeni government, which later led to a resurgence of Houthi threats and increased piracy in the Red Sea.

Confronting Houthi Terrorism

The minister stressed that, after a decade since the Houthi coup, the world now confronts Houthi terrorism directly. He pointed out that the warnings from Yemenis about the dangers of the Iranian project were ignored from the outset. Al-Eryani stated, “The facts confirm that the Arab intervention led by Saudi Arabia was a historical necessity. Attempts at unstudied de-escalation did not consider the nature of the militia and only led to further escalation and threats.”

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Yemen

Al-Eryani affirmed that Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has stood by Yemen as a true brother and noble neighbor. The Kingdom has supported not only the battle to restore the state but also efforts to establish security and stability and improve the living conditions of Yemenis.

A Legacy of Solidarity

In conclusion, Al-Eryani stated that Saudi Arabia’s historical stances will remain etched in the hearts of Yemenis, passed down through generations as a testament to authentic Arab solidarity and the courageous positions taken by Saudi leadership. He emphasized the deep ties and shared destiny between the two nations and peoples, rejecting any foreign project that targets Yemen’s national and Arab identity.
