The Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Ma’mar al-Eryani, has strongly condemned the brutal attack carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia. The militia targeted civilian homes with artillery fire in the village of Al-Boumiya, located in the Moqbana district of Taiz Governorate. This tragic incident resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to two others, all from the same family.
In a press statement, al-Eryani described this heinous crime as part of the ongoing, deliberate violence perpetrated by the Houthi militia against civilians in Taiz. He noted that just earlier this month, the militia had targeted a public market in Al-Boumiya using an Iranian-made drone, leading to the deaths of six civilians and injuries to eight more.
Al-Eryani emphasized that the Houthi militia’s strategy of attacking innocent civilians—by shelling residential neighborhoods, public markets, and civil institutions—reflects their brutality and terrorism. He pointed out that such actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for international laws and humanitarian values, exacerbating the suffering and deepening the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
The minister urged the international community, the United Nations, its special envoy, and human rights organizations to condemn this atrocious act. He called for immediate action to classify the Houthi militia as a “global terrorist organization,” freeze their assets, and hold accountable the leaders and members involved in these crimes.
This latest incident highlights the urgent need for a concerted international response to the ongoing violence in Yemen, as civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict.
