The Minister of Information condemned the Houthi militia’s detention of September Revolution supporters as a crime to suppress national sentiment.

In a recent statement, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Moammer Al-Eryani, condemned the Houthi militia for forcibly detaining thousands of citizens, including prominent figures such as politicians, journalists, and activists. He highlighted that these detentions occurred during celebrations of the September Revolution, revealing the Houthi’s true intentions and their deep-seated animosity toward the principles of revolution and republicanism.

Allegations of Coercion and Suppression

Minister Al-Eryani accused the Houthi militia of refusing to release the detained individuals unless they provided guarantees not to display national flags. He emphasized that this action was not merely a precautionary measure, as the Houthis claimed, but rather a systematic crime aimed at suppressing national sentiment and stifling the spirit of resistance among the Yemeni people. He described their actions as a means of terrorizing citizens and preventing them from celebrating national holidays, ultimately forcing compliance with militia demands.

Denunciation of National Flag Suppression

Al-Eryani pointed out that the Houthis viewed the display of the national flag during the revolution’s anniversary as a conspiracy funded from abroad, deserving of punishment. They have resorted to labeling those who raise the flag as traitors, a shocking development that has not even been seen in occupied territories. Meanwhile, the Houthis continue to display Iranian flags and sectarian slogans throughout the region, including in the capital, Sana’a.

Public Celebrations Amidst Repression

Despite the oppressive atmosphere, widespread celebrations marking the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution took place in Sana’a and other Houthi-controlled areas. Al-Eryani noted that these spontaneous demonstrations of national pride send a clear message to the world: Yemenis reject the Houthi militia and its regressive agenda. He asserted that these celebrations signify the failure of the militia’s attempts to erase Yemen’s national identity and illustrate the people’s commitment to the values and principles of the revolution.

Call for International Action

Al-Eryani expressed concern over the ongoing international silence regarding these grave violations. He urged the global community to condemn the brutal repression and terrorism perpetrated by the Houthis against citizens in their controlled territories. He called on society to resist these oppressive policies through all available means and to voice their rejection of such actions.

Appeal for Support from the International Community

The Minister also appealed to the international community, including the United Nations and its special envoy, to listen to the voices of Yemenis living under Houthi control. He urged them to support the citizens’ demands for a dignified and free life and to denounce the brutal repression of civilians. Al-Eryani called for genuine pressure to be exerted for the unconditional release of all detainees, including dozens of children under the age of 15.

This situation highlights the urgent need for international attention and action to address the ongoing human rights violations in Yemen.
