Field Inspections and Price Regulation Emphasized
Today, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ashwal, the Minister of Industry and Trade, urged provincial directors of the ministry to intensify field inspections and market oversight. He emphasized the need to regulate prices and take strict legal action against violators. These measures aim to protect consumers and ensure relative market stability as Ramadan approaches.
Increased Monitoring Amid Economic Challenges
In a directive shared with the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Al-Ashwal highlighted the importance of enhancing regulatory efforts during this critical period. With the rising demand for Ramadan goods and ongoing economic fluctuations, he stressed the necessity for active field presence. This approach will help ensure traders adhere to set prices and prevent monopolistic practices or market manipulation.
Continuous and Organized Market Campaigns Required
Al-Ashwal confirmed the need for ongoing and organized monitoring campaigns across various provinces. He called for the identification of any violations or excessive pricing. Furthermore, he insisted that all traders and suppliers of essential and consumer goods review and lower their prices in line with the recent improvement in the national currency’s exchange rate. This adjustment aims to alleviate the financial burdens on citizens.
Clear Pricing and Reporting Obligations for Traders
The minister also mandated that traders and shop owners display clear pricing for their goods. He instructed them to submit regular reports through the “Rasid” platform, detailing the outcomes of field inspections, the number of recorded violations, and any legal actions taken. Additionally, he encouraged enhanced coordination with local authorities and security agencies to facilitate the work of field inspection teams when necessary.
Commitment to Consumer Protection and Fair Competition
Al-Ashwal reiterated that the ministry would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone found harming citizens’ interests or violating fair competition rules. He emphasized that collaborative efforts between official and community sectors are essential for achieving market stability. The minister called on everyone to engage seriously and responsibly with these directives, fostering a team spirit that reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ purchasing power.
