The Armed Forces have confirmed their serious engagement with field reports from Taiz regarding the use of shells by the Houthi militia, suspected to contain toxic materials. These incidents have resulted in cases of suffocation and fainting among civilians and members of the popular resistance. The Armed Forces have called for an urgent investigation to determine the nature of the materials used, document their effects, and identify those responsible for supplying them.
Colonel Majid Al-Nazili, the official spokesperson for the Armed Forces, stated in a press release that these reports reflect a continuous escalation by the Houthi militia against the people of Taiz. This escalation includes sniper operations and indiscriminate shelling of residential neighborhoods, alongside a severe blockade imposed on the city. The blockade restricts access to water, food, medicine, and life-saving supplies for millions of citizens.
The Armed Forces have warned the Houthi militia against further targeting of civilians or using any prohibited weapons. They emphasized that protecting citizens and breaking the blockade on Taiz represents a steadfast responsibility of the state and its armed forces. They will take necessary actions in accordance with their constitutional obligations and international humanitarian law.
The Armed Forces stressed the need for the United Nations and relevant international bodies to fulfill their responsibilities in deterring Houthi violations. They urged support for urgent investigations into these recurring incidents, which amount to war crimes, and called for pressure to open roads and ensure unhindered access to humanitarian supplies.
The Armed Forces affirmed that those responsible for attacks against civilians, as well as those who support them, will not escape accountability and punishment.
