Lahij, Yemen – Today, Governor Ahmed Turki of Lahij province met with a team from the National Commission for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations. The meeting, led by committee member Judge Sabah Alwani, focused on various human rights issues, particularly the conditions of prisoners and prisons in the region.
During the meeting, which included the presence of Lahij Police Director Brigadier Nasser Al-Shawhati, Governor Turki praised the significant humanitarian efforts made by the National Commission. He emphasized the commission’s commitment to embodying the principles of freedom, equality, and peace. Furthermore, he assured that the local authority supports the commission’s work and will facilitate its activities within the province.
Governor Turki stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies, judicial bodies, and human rights organizations. He called for a united effort to advocate for human rights and social justice, highlighting that such cooperation is essential for meaningful progress.
Judge Alwani presented an overview of the committee’s key achievements and its ongoing efforts to monitor prisoner conditions. She noted the importance of evaluating how security forces adhere to legal procedures. Additionally, she highlighted the critical role of the judiciary and the need for training individuals responsible for the care of prisoners and the management of prisons.
In response, Brigadier Al-Shawhati reaffirmed the police’s commitment to upholding the dignity of prisoners and ensuring that they receive all their rights. This commitment reflects a broader dedication to human rights within the province.
