The Journalists’ Syndicate expresses concern for the lives of abductees in Houthi prisons after a journalist was moved to ICU.

On Tuesday, the Yemen Journalists’ Syndicate raised serious concerns regarding the deteriorating health of Abdu Mas’ad Al-Midan, a journalist held captive in Houthi prisons. Al-Midan has been transferred to intensive care at a hospital in Sana’a, prompting the syndicate to call for his immediate release, along with other journalists detained since late September.

Detention Conditions Under Scrutiny

The syndicate issued a statement detailing that Al-Midan faced an urgent transfer from prison to the hospital due to his health condition. He, along with several other journalists, was arrested for their journalistic writings. The syndicate condemned the harsh conditions that these detained journalists endure, including Al-Midan, Muhammad Dabwaan Al-Miahai, Fuad Al-Nahari, and Muhammad Al-Suhbani, who have been imprisoned since late September.

Houthi Responsibility for Mistreatment

The syndicate placed blame on the Houthi militia, holding them accountable for the mistreatment and inhumane conditions experienced by the journalists. They warned of potential risks to the health and safety of these individuals, insisting that proper medical care must be provided.

Call for Immediate Release of Journalists

Moreover, the syndicate reiterated its demand for the immediate release of all journalists and detainees arrested for their political opinions and stances since early September. The syndicate emphasized that the Houthi group has responded to dissenting voices with intimidation, arbitrary detention, and harsh treatment.

Reports from human rights organizations indicate that the Houthi militia has abducted thousands of citizens in areas under their control, including journalists, social figures, academics, and even children. These abductions often occur in response to participation in celebrations, such as the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.
