In a significant move to enhance the telecommunications sector, Dr. Waed Badhieb, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, who also serves as the Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, chaired the second extraordinary meeting of the Ministry of Communications today in the temporary capital, Aden.

Updates on Satellite Internet Services

During the meeting, Dr. Badhieb engaged with heads of various agencies and institutions under the ministry. He received detailed reports from Engineer Wael Tarmoom, the Executive Director of the General Telecommunications Corporation. Tarmoom provided insights into the latest developments regarding the “Starlink” satellite internet service, including its growing popularity and proposed pricing structures.

Expansion Plans for Internet Services

Engineer Mansour Al-Walidi, the General Director of the “Aden Net” project, presented an overview of the second phase of expansion. This phase aims to add 100,000 new subscribers and prepare for the third phase in both Al-Mokha and Ataq. These efforts will significantly enhance coverage and improve service quality.

Regulatory Framework for Telecommunications Fees

The meeting also addressed a draft procedural regulation concerning the tariffs and fees set by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. This draft will be submitted to the government for review and approval by relevant authorities.

Call for Comprehensive Report on Telecommunications Sector

Minister Badhieb tasked board members with preparing a comprehensive report on the current state of the telecommunications sector, outlining its technical, administrative, and financial needs. He emphasized the importance of developing the sector to become a vital contributor to the public treasury while offering competitive services at reasonable prices for citizens.

The Acting Minister urged the swift completion of the wage regulation framework, aligning it with the government’s economic recovery plan and financial reforms.
