Today, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population, met with the Japanese Ambassador to Yemen, Yunchi Nakashima, to discuss enhancing support for Yemen’s health sector. The conversation focused on increasing projects funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
During the meeting, both parties explored initiatives aimed at combating diseases such as tuberculosis. They also discussed contributions to developing a national information system within the Ministry of Health and enhancing the ministry’s human resource capabilities.
Minister Baheeb emphasized that the ministry prioritizes the continuous improvement of health services for citizens. He highlighted the importance of responding to health emergencies and infectious diseases while also focusing on building the capacity of the health sector. The Minister expressed gratitude for Japan’s support, which significantly aids the ministry’s efforts to activate and develop health services in liberated provinces.
Furthermore, Minister Baheeb stressed the need to broaden the support provided to Yemen. He pointed out the critical funding gaps that the health sector currently faces.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Qabati, the health attaché at the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh, also attended the meeting, contributing to the discussions on health sector improvements.
This collaboration between Yemen and Japan aims to foster a more robust health system, ultimately benefiting the Yemeni population.
