Central Bank of Yemen Launches Default Registry System in Aden

On Wednesday, Ahmed Ghaleb, the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, officially launched the Default Registry System in Aden, the temporary capital. This new digital platform aims to facilitate the exchange of information about defaulting clients, thereby reducing credit risks and safeguarding depositors’ funds. The initiative also seeks to enhance the stability of the banking system and support overall financial stability.

Enhancing Credit Information Infrastructure

During the launch, the Governor emphasized that the Central Registry for Defaulters represents a significant step in the Central Bank’s commitment to developing the credit information infrastructure. This project aims to improve the efficiency of the banking sector, maintain financial stability, and bolster public confidence in the banking system. The initiative aligns with modern banking practices and serves the national economy.

A Strategic Institutional Development

The Governor highlighted that this launch is not merely about introducing a new technical system. Instead, it marks an important institutional advancement in the development of the credit information ecosystem. The initiative will enhance supervisory and regulatory tools, improve risk management, and elevate the quality of credit decisions made by banks and financial institutions.

A Unified National Platform

Ghaleb stated, “The Central Bank of Yemen has developed this system to serve as a unified national platform for collecting, managing, and exchanging credit default data among banks operating in Yemen. This platform will adhere to regulatory standards and procedures that ensure data accuracy and confidentiality. It will also enhance the integration of credit information exchange, enabling banks to assess risks more effectively and make higher-quality credit decisions.”

Attendance and Collaboration

The launch event saw the participation of Mansour Rajeh, the Central Bank’s Deputy for Banking Supervision, along with representatives from commercial and Islamic banks operating in the country. Their involvement underscores the collaborative effort to strengthen Yemen’s financial landscape.

This initiative marks a pivotal moment in Yemen’s banking sector, promising to foster a more secure and efficient financial environment for all stakeholders involved.
