Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, emphasized the need for a thorough and accurate documentation of the humanitarian, service, and economic impacts resulting from the war and blockade imposed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias on the governorate.
This statement came during a meeting of the Blockade Affairs Committee in the governorate, attended by the Deputy Governor for Services Affairs, Engineer Rashad Al-Akhali, the Director of the Human Rights Office, Ali Sarhan, and committee members.
The governor affirmed that systematic documentation of the humanitarian suffering endured by the residents of the governorate would help expose the violations committed by the Houthi militias and raise awareness of the issue among the local and international public.
He pointed out that the blockade no longer limited itself to closing main roads; it has extended to various aspects of life. This includes the movement of citizens, access to health and educational services, trade and relief operations, as well as water and food supplies. Additionally, the blockade has contributed to rising living costs.
Nabil Shamsan instructed the committee to conduct comprehensive monitoring and documentation of the blockade’s effects and its escalation. This includes attacks targeting civilians and vital facilities in Al-Mokha and the western coastal districts. He called for the preparation of professional reports that reveal the extent of the violations and support the rights of the governorate’s residents.
He also stressed the importance of developing monitoring and documentation tools, improving reporting mechanisms, and enhancing coordination with influential local and international human rights organizations. This effort aims to bring the issue to the international community and hold the Houthi militias accountable for their violations.
During the meeting, the governor listened to a presentation from the committee regarding its field efforts and plans to expand monitoring to cover various aspects of public life. This will be done in coordination with official bodies and relevant human rights organizations, along with the preparation of daily and periodic reports documenting the humanitarian, service, and economic dimensions of the blockade imposed on the governorate.
