Today, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, received a copy of the credentials of Merete Juhl, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Denmark to Yemen.
Minister Al-Zouba welcomed the Danish ambassador and wished her success in her new role. She emphasized the ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary support to facilitate Juhl’s mission and to strengthen cooperative relations between the two friendly countries.
The minister praised Denmark’s supportive stance towards Yemen. She expressed her hope to enhance bilateral relations and improve political and diplomatic coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Minister Al-Zouba reviewed the latest developments in Yemen, particularly the repercussions of the Houthi escalation. She highlighted the resulting waves of displacement and damage to civil institutions and essential services. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities towards citizens and displaced individuals, while working with international partners to address humanitarian needs and alleviate suffering.
Al-Zouba stressed the dangers posed by ongoing Iranian military and technical support to Houthi militias. She warned that this support threatens the security of Yemen and the region, as well as the safety of international navigation and trade. Additionally, she raised concerns about the risks posed by missiles launched by Houthi militias to civil aviation safety and the lives of travelers.
For her part, Ambassador Juhl affirmed Denmark’s special focus on Yemen’s security and stability, as well as regional security. She reiterated Denmark’s support for Yemen and expressed her eagerness to work closely with the Yemeni government to enhance bilateral cooperation and address humanitarian and security challenges, including improving maritime security in the Red Sea.
